Beware of the Bite

Don’t forget to protect yourself from summers bite! Bug bites can cause a number of health issues, from itchiness to potentially serious diseases such as West Nile virus and Lyme disease. Insect repellent can help protect you but be sure to use only as directed. All insect repellents sold in Canada have been thoroughly tested and approved by Health Canada.

Some tips on applying repellents:

  • Read and follow the label directions
  • Do not apply directly to the face. Apply to hands then rub on the face
  • Supervise the application of insect repellent on children. Avoid applying repellent to children’s hands to reduce the chance of it being transferred to the eyes and mouth
  • Apply sparingly, a little goes a long way
  • Remember, insect repellents are proven to work on only the insects listed on the label
  • If you are concerned about sensitivity to a product, test on a small area and wait 24 hours

Your local Super Thrifty pharmacy offers a wide selection of safe and effective insect repellents, ask your pharmacist to recommend one that is right for your and your family.
